Question : Can I delete only the visible rows without having to select visible

In Excel 2003, when you use auto-filter to filter a list, then select and delete rows, only the visible rows are deleted.  In Excel 2007, hidden rows are deleted as well, unless you explicitly select visible rows (Alt-;).

I would like to get Excel 2007 to work like Excel 2003.  When I delete rows, I want to delete only the visible rows.

Microsoft's web site has a hot fix that sounds like it will take care of the problem.  I've copied the link and some of the information on the page below.

Has anybody tried this?  The fix came out in February, but it has not been released through Windows update (or at least I don't think it's been released.  My version of Excel is 12.0.6300.5000.  The KB indicates that after applying the hotfix, the version will be 12.0.6303.5000.

I'd love to know if anyone has tried this, and if so, whether it has taken care of the problem.  I'd also love to know whether anyone knows another way to fix this problem.

Thanks,

SYMPTOMS
In Microsoft Office Excel 2007, you apply a filter to a worksheet by selecting the header to hide a row. This worksheet has not been saved. If you then delete or modify the rows in the worksheet that are above and below the hidden row, the hidden row is also deleted or modified. This issue occurs when you select only the range headers, and then you turn on AutoFilters.

This issue occurs in the following scenarios after you filter the data by selecting the range headers: " Row deletion: Deleting the selected range would delete the hidden rows between this range.
" Fill: Filling data in the selected range would fill even the hidden rows between this range.
" Copy/Paste: Copying and then pasting the range of cells will paste even the hidden rows.
" Formatting: Formatting the selected range would format the hidden rows also.

RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, apply the hotfix that is described in Microsoft Knowledge Base article 948944.

Answer : Can I delete only the visible rows without having to select visible

I still can't reproduce it.

The caution in the article is standard boilerplate stating that the fix has not been tested as part of a full release integration test. Since the page has been up for about five months and hasn't been taken down, I would say it's a safe bet.
