Question : Maintenance overlap for database

Hello,

We are running Windows Server 2003 64Bit and Exchange 2007. Every day I see the warning below being logged in the Application Even Log:
============================================================================
Event Type:      Warning
Event Source:      MSExchangeIS Mailbox Store
Event Category:      Background Cleanup
Event ID:                           9871
Date:            9/8/2009
Time:            5:59:59 AM
User:            N/A
Computer:                           EXCHANGE1
Description:
There is an online maintenance overlap for database "First Storage Group\Mailbox Database". Please revise the online maintenance schedule.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
============================================================================

Right before that an informational event like the one below is being logged:
============================================================================
Event Type:      Information
Event Source:      ESE
Event Category:      Online Defragmentation
Event ID:                           704
Date:            9/8/2009
Time:            5:59:59 AM
User:            N/A
Computer:      EXCHANGE1
Description:
MSExchangeIS (3360) First Storage Group: Online defragmentation of database 'D:\Exchange Data\Database Files\First Storage Group\Mailbox Database.edb' was interrupted and terminated. The next time online defragmentation is started on this database, it will resume from the point of interruption.

============================================================================

I assume that these two events belong to each other.

The maintenance schedule window is set between 2:00a.m. and 6:a.m. And then there is a second schedule setup for the messaging records management between 6:00p.m. - 7:00p.m. So these two tasks cannot be overlapping.

Since the informational event 704 is being logged exactly at 5:59a.m. can I assume that the maintenance window is to small? I cannot set it longer then 6:00a.m. because the first people come into the office at 6:30a.m. but I could start the window instead of 2:a.m. at lets say 11:00p.m. already.

Or am I totally wrong with me assumptions and the warning has nothing to do with the informational even 704 at all?

Thank you

Answer : Maintenance overlap for database

Shrink the window for the online defrag by 15 minutes.

When setting up the maintenence windows for more than one database best practice is to have a 15 minutes gap between the databases. It doesn't matter if the maintenence is not finnished before window end because it will start where it ended next nigth. However if the process is interupted it have to start over.

Change the schedule and give feedback.
