Question : Virtualizing Backup Exec 12.5 on Hyper-V

I currently have a 2008 Server configured with Hyper-V. I would like to install a SCSI card in this server, create a VM running Server 2008 and Backup Exec, and attach the SCSI tape drive to this VM.  Is this possible and if so, is it recommended?

Unfortunately I don't believe you will be able to pass through the SCSI connection from the Parent to the Guest VM.  Your best bet is to connect the tape drive to an iSCSI bridge.  That will give you the ability to present the tape drive as an iSCSI target to the Backup Exec VM.

The StarWind iSCSI target is a popular choice.

Good Luck!
