Question : Why does mail merge change date format from Australian to American when the document is merged?

I've written a MSAccess 2002 application which pulls data from a SQL 2005 database and stuffs it into an Access table, then I point a word document at the table and merge the data into the word document.

I'm working in Australia and have my box (XP PRO) set to Australian dates.

When the Access MDB stuffs the SQL 2005 data into the table, the dates are input in the correct format for Australia, e.g. "Tuesday, 8 April 2008"

AND, when the regular MS Word DATE function (that puts today's date on the document) is run it ALSO displays the dates in the proper format, e.g. "Thursday, 10 April 2008"

However when the Word document pulls the (Australian format) date from the Access table and places it on the page, it modifies the format to American format, e.g. "Thursday, April 10, 2008"

I've looked everwhere and cannot sort this one out!  Why does the merge function change the date formatting and is there any way to keep it from doing so?

Thanks!

Marc
