Question : Safe Shutdown of Windows 2008 Server connected to APC UPS

Hello,

Having a problem on our Windows 2008 servers attached to APC UPS's via USB cable.  The server automatically detects the UPS, and controls it like a laptop battery like we would assume it would.

But, what happens when a power outage occurs is that the server monitors the UPS until it hits the "low" or "critical" condition, but instead of doing a SAFE orderly shutdown, it shuts down HARD, so the next time it boots, it comes up with an unexpected shutdown error etc.  We are also worried about data loss/corruption as well.

Any thoughts on how to make the server shut down PROPERLY when the battery gets low?

Thanks...

Answer : Safe Shutdown of Windows 2008 Server connected to APC UPS

You should use an UPS software which usually comes with it to control your shutdown.
I'm using Powerware 5115 on my PC and I have installed Lan Safe software that comes with it.
Now I have full control over it, it also shuts down my PC if power isn't restored in 5 minutes.

See if you can find something for your UPS model here:
