Question : Convert to Primary Zone to Secondary zone

I am running 3 DNS servers (all are domain controllers).  A Primary DNS Server (A) and (2) Secondary DNS servers (B & C).  I would like to take the Primary server (A) offilne soon due to aging and hardware issues.  I need to make one of my Secondary Servers (C) a Primary Server.  Here a the step that I have taken so far.  I have recentley just added one of the two Secondary servers (C) as it was non existant.  I Installed the new server (C) and promoted it to a domain controller.  I then installed DNS on the server (C).  I tranfered the records from Server (A) to server (C) by added the zone to the forward and reveser lookup zones.  I transfered the FSMO roles from Server (A) to Server (C).  The next step I need to do (I assume) is to change the Role of the DNS Server (A).  This is were I am unsure how to go.  Do I just change the Server (C) to Primary and then change Server (A) to secondary?  Should I change Server (A) to Primary and store zone in Active directory?  My final goal here is to take Server (A) offline.  I am also running An Exchange server which is not on any on theses 3 servers, but is on the domain and I want to make sure that none of these changes effects the Exchange server in a negative way.  Please steer me in the right direction.  Thanks

Answer : Convert to Primary Zone to Secondary zone

It seems like for some reason the sysvol folder isn't replicating. Check the event viewed, file replication service to see if there are any replication errors that might give us some clues. If not, to rule out any possible conflicts in the directory preventing replication, I would do this, demote the server and rename it. Using ntdsutil, remove the server from the directory. Go into AD U&C and make sure the computer account is deleted. Verify that the Domain Controller and DNS server roles are removed from the server if its a 2003 or 2008 box. Manually delete the sysvol folder (remember it should be demoted. If it's not, DON'T do this) from the C:\Windows directory. Verify that the server is no longer listed under active directory sites and services for replication. Once that's done, rename to it's old name (which will recreate the computer account in AD), and re-promote.
