Question : Issue Opening Excel File in MS Excel 2007 w/Embedded Links

I have a MS Excel File that contains lots of formulas in it that have embedded links.  I can open this file just fine on a PC running MS Office 2003.  When I try to open the file on a PC running MS Office 2007, all of the fields in the file show the standard "#REF!".  Across the top of Excel there is a Security Warning stating "Automatic update of links has been disabled."  I can click on the Options button and Enable the Content but this still doesn't resolve the issue.  All of the cells that are giving me the #REF! have the following formula type format in them:

=+'C:\Reporting\Database\[2008''07 DataBase.xls]IS $US'!AE12

Any ideas as to why this is causing a problem would be helpful.

Answer : Issue Opening Excel File in MS Excel 2007 w/Embedded Links

There are a couple of known issues with Excel 2007 that result in the #REF! error value being returned from links. You'll want to read both of the following Microsoft KnowledgeBase articles.

Is the workbook Shared? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/291287/en-us   "Links in shared workbook return #REF! error in Excel"

Was the workbook last saved in an earlier version of Excel? http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925893/en-us "External links may be updated in Excel 2007 when you open a workbook that was last saved in an earlier version of Excel"
