Question : What is a good server naming convention?

We have several nodes like vmware, windows cluster, ad, etc... what is a good naming convention for all these unique nodes?

We take a different road on naming.  We are governed by very strict security guidelines so we have our servers/PCs/printers named in a numbered sequential pattern, that gives nothing away of the type of server or PC that the device is.  If a hacker gets in to our network, it would take them a little be longer to get to a server, seeing 1000's of devices named 111111, 111112,111113, etc.
