Question : Email showing strange characters

Strange one here.... I have a client that when sending email, a \ character appears in the body of the message when a certain keystroke is pressed.

Here is a sample: "is next Tuesday\s interdepartment " (Copied directly from body of the HTML email message). If you view the source of the email message it is "

Jenn.I think it is next
Tuesday\s interdepartment meeting.it feels like Monday..Franpan>

"

It looks like the & in the \ is being translatted into the HTML entity of & and then being displayed as \ instead of \

The client is using:
Microsoft Office 2007 Professional with Service Pack 2 installed
Word is the default email editor
Windows Vista Business Edition, Service Pack 2

Any suggestions? I tried a couple different queries on Google, but to no avail.

Only this client is having this issue. All recipients see the strange \ characters.
