Question : server 2008 security
We have a mixed workgroup with XP (SP2) clients and Server 2008 standard - when a user from a XP client connects to a share on the server they are asked for credentails every time even when they hit the remember my password checkbox - this is a minor issue for them, the real bug is a program that also has to access the share, there is no obvious way of adding the local server user account to the software to authenticate with the share. We have added the clients local user account to the servers local user list and still it fails (because it is client1\clientadmin and not server\clientadmin) - my gut feeling is the security settings on the server 2008 standard box. How can we set up shares and user accounts on the server to allow the clients (and software) to connect without having to provide logon details?
Answer : server 2008 security
are you saying that even if you check off RECONNECT and login as different user, you get this problem?
I would map a drive for the end users in this way (see screen shot)
