Question : Outlook emails stay marked as Unread

I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007, and I have a minor pet peeve.
When a new email comes into my inbox, I read it in the preview pane, and it remains "Unread".

When I double-click it to open, it gets marked as Read.
When I right-click it and choose, "Mark as Read", it gets marked as Read.

What I want is for when I view it in the Preview pane, it should get marked as Read.

This should be very simple...anybody?

Check in options for how long did you set options to be as read...

it looks like you have something like 5 to 10 seconds to stay unread.  
You can change this to lower time or even to automate the proces to mark it as read
