Question : HTC P3400 - Synchronization Problem with HP Laptop - Windows Vista Home Premium

I have "HP Pavilion Entertainment PC" Laptop which have Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium (Service Pack 1) Pre-installed.

Also have HTC P3400 Windows Mobile which have Microsoft Windows 5.0 (OS 5.1.422 Build 15633.3.2.0)
Details of HTC are
      ROM Version 1.10.415.2 WWE
      Radio Version: 02.79.90
      CPU - OMAP850
      Speed - 201 MHz
      RAM Size - 64 MB
      Flash Size - 128 MB
      Storage Size - 49.47 MB
      Model No - GENE100

Issue is regarding the Synchronization with my Laptop. Desktop Synchronizing is working by ActiveSync 4.5
But my Laptop doesn't recognize my Windows Mobile. I found that ActiveSync cannot be installed in Laptop having Windows Vista. Instead have another tool already available with Vista.
But in laptop, Windows Mobile is not get detected in Control Panel - Sync Center. Eventhough it is not detected here, sometimes Mobile folders will be shown in 'My Computer' (If I try 3 times reconnecting, one time Phone folders may get displayed in 'My Computer')
Since Synchronization is not happening properly, I am not able to sync my contacts, appointments, tasks, emails, etc with Laptop.

Hi Windows Mobile Experts, could you please tell me the solution ?

Regards
Raj

Answer : HTC P3400 - Synchronization Problem with HP Laptop - Windows Vista Home Premium

HURRAY!!!! SUCCESS !!!!
It is a long story, about how I achieve this! Because there is a series of issues occured during my attempt. When one issue was solved, another one arised !!

I tried connect to another USB ports of my computer. But sorry :( No success.

My phone was fully loaded with many softwares. Many of the softwares have been installed & uninstalled. In short my phone was not in good health. So I gave a try by hard-reset my Windows Mobile.

After hard-reset, connected to my laptop.  Now Vista identified my phone and show its device name correctly! When I connect the phone, a taskbar balloon popup appear now telling that "Rajkumar's Smartphone is connected" !!

But my happiness ended soon. After sometime a error message of Vista popups
"Synchronization cannot be started because you are not able to log on to the network and access information. Restart your desktop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persists, contact your network administrator"

In mobile also a message popup saying that "To recognize this device, you must install ActiveSync 4.1 or later on your desktop"
( Later on I identified, why this happened! I will explain at the end. Any guess ? )

I opened "Windows Mobile Device Center", phone is connected and it has started Synching... Finally synchronization completed with errors. When i clicked on 'view errors', errors listed are
1. Sync Error - Activesync encountered a problem on the desktop
2. sync Error - Notes:attention required
3. Sync Failed - Sync Failed with Rajkumar's Smartphone

I thought that the Sync of Notes only failed. I unselected it - No use.

But on the next time I connected, phone is not detected. But the sound of vista while connecting / disconnecting the phone is hearing. When I checked mobile (it was disconnected from PC), it seems to be not responding. It's light was ON like it is charging from laptop throught USB. I done soft-reset the phone. Now it is detecting again, but Sync error remains as mentioned above.

Now I went to Microsoft Outlook and noticed that I didn't configure for any email. I configured for my gmail account. Yes !!! Now the synchronization started successfully.
(I strongly believe, this was the reason for the above error messages in Laptop & Mobile, because now onwards those error messages didn't appear)

In Microsoft Outlook, all contacts with photo synchronized. I am happy :)
Checked Calender of Outlook - Yes. it is also synched - double happy ::))

Now when i just touch at the USB cable connected to my phone, the connection got lost! So I doubt whether something wrong with the USB cable. I tried with another USB cable, which seems to be tight.
Now PC detects phone again!!

At last to double-check whether the suggestion you said - Try another USB port - I connected to all USB port including that USB port that was not detecting the phone previously. they are detecting the phone immediately.

-- THE END --

So let me conclude about my findings. The steps, I passed through are
1. Install Windows Mobile Device Center
2. Done Windows Update with Service Pack 2
3. Corrupted Mobile phone with many softwares ----- SOFT-RESET the phone
4. USB Cable may be not good. --------- REPLACE with a good cable.

At the end, I am not sure about which of the above step solved this issue. I believe, Step #3, then Step #1, Step #2 may the solution.

Thanks pgnatyuk, to be with me till my issue got solved :) Because your suggestions, helped me a lot to think this way.

I will be back after sometime to close this question.
