Question : can disc stuck at stage 2 of 3

checking file system on C:

CHKDSK is is stuck on stage 2 of 3 with 0% completed>    I am using xp PRO with latest SP and dual core intel with wester nterabyrte hd about 2 months old.  Nothing out of ordinary. Just a routine maintanence I do once a month.  Althought yesterday my computer froze so I had to push power button with 3 programs open.  Notihing else would work to close so I know this will cause slow chkdsk.


Can I reboot into safe mode and try last config that worked or???

What to do?   It has been over 30 minutes so far in stage 2

I am afraid opowering down  wil make worse. How long should I wait  ?

Answer : can disc stuck at stage 2 of 3

Power off, restart and use Chkntfs /D and try again, if problems persist then use the disk manufacturers diagnostics
