Question : What is the Best Way to Transfer Settings from Windows 7 Beta to New Machine

I am setting-up a new computer using Windows 7 Professional.  The old PC was using the Win7 preview.  I was thinking of using the transfer wizard.  Is there a way to collect the data, but only use bits and pieces on the new machine?  Meaning, I want a clean install - but I want to be able to transfer certain data, when I choose to.

Is there a best practice for upgrading? Moving user account and program data?  Again, I want access to it, but don't want to move it unless I choose to.

I have Nero Backup, Siber Systems' GoodSync, and the backup software in Windows.

Both machines can be connected to the same domain, and I have an external hard disk.

Thanks

Well as for the programs, you would have to re-install it

Built in windows 7 backup is quite good too.

For your user settings, like favorites, mail profiles etc you can use the windows transfer wizard and then import it back into your new machine, that way you would ahve your pictures, documents (stored under your username documents, pictures, downloads, videos)

anything under your userfolder would be backed up with the transfer wizard, it will give you the option to customize it, for e.g, if you are not interested in moving / copying your videos you can de-select it.

you would have to use a usb hard disk for that to happen and your profile will still be on the old machine.
