Question : Error Message "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded

I have a Windows Xp machine at work with sp1 installed, when a user trys to log onto the computer they get the following error message

"Windows Cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded check that you are connected to the network

DETAIL: The system has attempted to load or restore a file into the registry but the specified file is not in a registry file format"

and then returns to the log on screen

Only ONE user can log on to this machine without getting this error message, this user always used this computer but has now left so the person using it now has to use her log on account to have access to the computer.

any one know how to fix this problem?

Answer : Error Message "Windows cannot log you on because your profile cannot be loaded

If this doesn't work then I'd suggest rebuilding the machine.

I never give a user a OS IMAGE that was used by another user regardless of whether its XP, W2K, 98, or 95; just for reasons like this!
