Question : Doc to Xls
|
|
I scanned a document with OmniPage 10.0. After scanning you can put it into either .doc or .xls. But .xls does not work properly, it looses data. But when I save it as a .doc it looks perfect. Now am I able to convert my current .doc files to the .xls format? Thanks for any information you can give me.

Thanks, cal. I'll do this.
Turn the show/hide button on. It's located on the top (standard) toolbar and looks like a backwards P. Note whether the characters between the "columns" are arrows that point right (tabs) or spaces, which look like periods.
Save the document as a text file. (File-Save as and select Text (.txt).
Open the file from Excel, making sure you change the Files of type dropdown to all files or text files. This should start Excel's Text import wizard. You will be asked if your text is fixed with or delimited, so here's the trick:
When in Word, if you saw tabs (arrows), select delimited. If you saw spaces (periods), select fixed width.
Follow the steps through the text import wizard. This should work well for you.
