Question : cleaning registry from nav, symantec, and mcafee

Hi,
I had nav2001 on win2k server, uninstalled it to install mcafee 4.5 netshield, since couldn't get it work fine, uninstalled this one too, when tried reinstalling nav it wouldn't let me; I then deleted all folders and files of symantec and norton, but the followings:
c:\programs\shared files\symantec shared
c:\programs\shared files\symantec shared\livereg
inside is vcsetup
c:\programs\shared files\symantec shared\script blocking
inside are sbserv, sbuilist.dat, scrauth.dll, scrblock.dll
c:\programs\epsonnet\epsonnet webmanager\html\applet\symantec
I then opened regedit and with search tool found the norton and symantec entries, and deleted them.
Still can't reinstall nav the following error msg comes out:
"initialization of the uninstall program not possible. Uninstall of this product could be not possible"
I found the following other keys and values in the registry, can I *safely* delete them, along with the folder and files described above?

Now that I've got a better understanding of your requested information, I've gone back over your original post, and individually reviewed each entry. There are some things that make me pause and ask questions though, the questions are here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\ControlSet002\Services\lanmanserver\Shares
          Norton SystemWorks

The above is not a standard registry entry for NAV, this is a registry entry for Symantec's Norton SystemWorks. (So, are you running Norton SystemWorks? If so, then be very cautious in removing any of the symantec registry entries as the rest of SystemWorks programs may require them)


HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-343818398-790525478-725345543-500\Software\Applications\Symantec WinFax Starter Edition

The above entry is usually created through an install of Outlook 2000 (or later). So if you use the Symantec Winfax Starter Edition from Outlook, then you don't want to remove this entry.
