Question : XP Home won't boot to HD
I have a pc that is running XP Home and had a bad virus infection. I the process of cleaning it up I had to reboot. After the Post there is a little bit of Hard Drive activity, and just a black screen.
I have performed the following;
Boot Ultimate Boot CD 4 Win and ran,
chkdsk /r
mbrfix
save mbr to file, wipe mbr and restore
Same results
I installed another HD, different OS and it boots fine. Not a computer issue.
Created a HD image using Acronis, installed a new HD and restored image.
New HD acts the same way.
Used Windows XP Home w/SP 2 installation CD to do an over the top repair installation.
After install file copy system reboots to start install, same result.
None of these attempts has changed anything.
Any help would be appreciated.
Answer : XP Home won't boot to HD
Normally you would get a message such as corrupt or missing NTLDR, Boot.ini, HAL.DLL etc., I think. But it would be useful to know if those files are present...
