Question : SBS Backups Fail
|
|
SBS Backups failing.
Hello - I am trying to use SBS Backup to cover a server onto a USB HDD. All of the backups fail with the following error:
Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\COM+ Class Registration Database.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.
Error: Could not access portions of directory System State\Registry.
You may not have permission to open the file, or the directory may be missing or damaged.
Please contact the owner or administrator.
I did some research on this site and found one matching solution, that does not offer the same solution to my case. I also checked out the instructions at the following site:
http://www.smallbizserver.net/tabid/266/articleType/ArticleView/articleId/68/How-to-install-Service-Pack-1-for-SBS-2003.aspx
I am afraid this may just be another facet of SBS' crappy performance.

Answer : SBS Backups Fail
|
|
The instruction for stopping the VSS service is there to make sure that it's not running before you re-register the dlls. If it's not running when you go to do this, then you obviously wouldn't have to do that step. No worries there.
If the backups are still failing though, then please apply this patch: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/940349
