Question : Error linking tables from MS Access 2003 to Sybase ASE

This is a weird one. After installing the Sybase ASE 15.03 drivers on an XP computer, I created a DSN for a Sybase database running on a network server and tested the connection. It worked fine. Then, I went into MS Access 2003 and attempted to link to one of the Sybase tables using the ODBC driver I just created. It allowed me to create the link, but when I tried to open the table, it displayed the first couple of rows and then prompted me for the password again. It then kept bringing up this error message over and over again and finally failed with an ODBC error that caused MS Access to close down.

I have no idea what is causing this problem. Has anyone seen this problem before?

Thanks in advance,
Kevin McElhiney

Answer : Error linking tables from MS Access 2003 to Sybase ASE

Well, I ended up creating a Sybase tech support incident through our DBA, It turned out that this was a known problem with the current release of the 15.03 drivers, and they released a patch to fix it. After doing a clean install of the drivers and applying the patch, it fixed the problem with linking from Access to Sybase tables. Additionally, I found out how to make legacy applications work with the new drivers by using a script they provide to copy the new DLL's to the old DLL names. So, all problems are fixed and everything is once more right with the world.
