Question : How to set correct IIS authentication for Exchange 2010

Set
AD Domain control - win 2003
New Exchange 2010 on windows 2008 just installed. No coexistence with other exchange versions
UUC cert covering internal and external names incl autodiscover
OWA and Exchange anywhere work correctly
Autodiscover is working correctly although 2007 outlook domain clients need to enter user credentials at start (a different issue - possibly connected?)

Problem?
The IIS folders Public, Exchweb and Exchange all show IIS Authentication as "retrieving status" for all 6 entries. Also error message

Filename: \\?\c:\program files\microsoft\exchange
server\v14\clientaccess\owa\web.config
Line number:30
Error: Configuration section not allowed to be set below application

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Answer : How to set correct IIS authentication for Exchange 2010

I had this same problem with one of mine.

On your Exchange server, navigate to: C:\Program Files\Microsoft\Exchange Server\V14\ClientAccess\owa

Make a copy of the web.config file and save it somewhere else.

Then modify the original one and remove the entry on line 30 that reads:

Then save the file
