I assume your PC has the current date. Yoiu may have set the default value of your date field to 0, in which case, the date picker will open to that date, 12/30/1899. Try deleting any value that exists in the date field, save the record, and go back to the date field to check the value of teh default date in the date picker. It should be today's date.
