Question : Exchange 2003 Problem

My client is using Exchange 2003 and recently received the following error in the event log:

Event ID: 1000
Event Description: Faulting application exsp.dll, version 6.5.7638.1, stamp 430e735b, faulting module offfilt.dll, version 2002.10.4.0, stamp 3da79581, debug? 0, fault address 0x00005003.

Any thoughts?

Answer : Exchange 2003 Problem

I am also having this issue on one server. Windows 2003 standard edition with SP2 and Exchange 2003 standard with SP2.
A couple of things seem to indicate that it has to do with Microsoft Search Service and full text indexing on public information store.

The offending file seems to be placed in c:\program files\common files\system\mssearch\bin\offfilt.dll because that is version 2002.10.4.0, as noted in the event.
The other, version 2006.0.5730.0, is placed in c:\windows\system32. Possibly updated by Windows SP2.

Rebooting the server seems to make the event appear. Restarting just MS Search service does not.

Perhaps it is just a matter of using regsvr32 /s offfilt.dll in system32, but I am a bit reluctant to experiment on this particular server.
