Question : New motherboard will not boot

I recently purchased a new motherboard: MSI G31TM-P21 and installed it using the old processor but it would not boot up.  the fans would come on, but I would get no video.  So I went on E bay and found a CPU: Processor Intel Celeron D 2.66GHz Socket 478 SL7NV CPU and installed it and the system acts the same way; fans come on, but that is all.  I am wondering, is the CPU not compatible with the motherboard? And if it is, what can I do to find what is the problem?

Answer : New motherboard will not boot

The MSI Specifications show that the G31TM-P21 is a Socket 775 motherboard -- NOT a Socket 478 board.

In addition, it doesn't support any of the Socket 775 Netburst CPU's [Pentium-IV's or the older Celerons].

What processor did you originally install in this board?
