Question : Winmail.dat attachments are occuring internally

Hi there, I'm having the problem that winmail.dat attachments are replacing attachments for certain users internally.
The users are composing messages in HTML and running outlook 2003 with exchange 2007.
What I have noticed is that if they don't use the suggested names ie they use the global address list instead, then the attachments get through.
Many users rely on the suggested names so this is not an option and it's starting to happen to more and more users.

Also when it starts to happen a user can send an attachment to two users, one will receive the winmail.dat file and the other will receive the correct attachment.

thanks.

Answer : Winmail.dat attachments are occuring internally

The only solution I can offer is to forbid the use of Exchange RichText usage;
In Organization Config
Goto Hub Trasport
THen remote Domains
Get the properties for the Default
Goto tab message format
change Exchange rich-text format to 'never use'.

This will forbid the use of the winmail.dat file on any address the system believes is external/remote or not handled by the domain serviced by the exchange server (even if you do not belive it is a remote address).
