Question : could not load VFD.VXD

Ok, I got this computer from a friend of mine...  When I try to start it up, I get this message:
While initializing device VFBACKUP: VFBACKUP could not load VFD.VXD. Please run setup again.
I found on the web somewhere how to get in there and do the attrib thing at the c:\ prompt
so I did that. Now I still get that same message when I try to start windows and on top of it, when I hit F4
to run dos, it says running previous dos or whatever it said before to get me to the c:\ prompt
but it won't continue. It just sits there saying that it's loading dos or whatever but it won't do anything else.
By the way, this is windows 95 on a rather old computer.
I think my roomate might have deleted a bunch of stuff to get it not to work so that I'd give it to him for parts.
Oh, and I have a windows 98 startup disk, I'm guessing that if I can erase what's on there, I could just pop that in?
Sorry, I'm not really good with this computer stuff, though I do follow directions well! :)

I thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

Answer : could not load VFD.VXD

This article addresses your problem and should fix it

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=150164

if you go here

http://www.drd.dyndns.org/index2.html

and go under dll and then search type in VFD.VXD this in case you need this file depending on what happens when you go through the microsoft article above.

Also if you need a windows95 bootable diskette you can get it from here

http://www.bootdisk.com/bootdisk.htm
