Question : ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect (yet agian?)

Hello Wise Sages,

I have been fighting with this for some time and I just cannot seem to figure it out.  I am working in windows trying to set up an odbc to connect (using 'PuTTY' to port forward) to oracle.  I have no problems getting it to work on a windows XP machine.  I have hit the wall on my Windows7 machine.  I am using the odbc32 on the windows7 machine and there must be some part of the picture I am missing.  Here is what I have that works on the WinXP box.

TSNAMES.ORA
DMP2 =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = localhost)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVICE_NAME = DMP2.QQQQ.COM)
    )
  )

XE =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = MYxp.nx.local)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SERVER = DEDICATED)
      (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    )
  )

EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SID = PLSExtProc)
      (PRESENTATION = RO)
    )
  )

ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
  (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    )
    (CONNECT_DATA =
      (SID = CLRExtProc)
      (PRESENTATION = RO)
    )
  )

LISTENER.ORA
SID_LIST_LISTENER =
  (SID_LIST =
    (SID_DESC =
      (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
      (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
      (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
    (SID_DESC =
      (SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
      (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
      (PROGRAM = extproc)
    )
  )

LISTENER =
  (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
      (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Myxp.nx.local)(PORT = 1521))
    )
  )

DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)

These are the entries which do not work on the Windows7 machine.  I am at a loss as to why.

Anyone have any ideas??

Answer : ORA-12514 TNS:listener does not currently know of service requested in connect (yet agian?)

If you are accessing remote machine,
the listener.ora file ON YOUR MACHINE doesn't
play role.
You have to investigate the listener.ora file
ON THE REMOTE SERVER and make an entry there
for the desired instance.

That is the cause of your problem, outside
firewalls between the two computers ...
