Question : Excel 32 bit on XP Pro 64 bit ODBC connection...

Hello all,

I am running XP x64 and have installed office 2003 onto the PC.

A Excel spread sheet that requires the ODBC connection to a Oracle database does not.

I have installed the 32bit and 64bit Oracle client, yet it refuses to run.

I get 2 errors:

[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]ORA-12154: TNS:could not resolve the connection identifier specified

Then:

[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager]Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed

Then I get a prompt for the username, password and server.

In the 32bit Data Source Administrator I can connect to the server through the System DNS.

Why on earth can I not connect using Excel.

I have read: The 32-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool and the 64-bit version of the ODBC Administrator tool display both the 32-bit user DSNs and the 64-bit user DSNs in a 64-bit version of the Windows operating system (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/942976)

Yet I cannot make heads or tails of whats needed.

Any input or help would be greatful.

Many Thanks

Answer : Excel 32 bit on XP Pro 64 bit ODBC connection...

Greetings.

I have looked at this issue and done research with the error messages. I am not sure if this pertains to the program you are using, However I am sure that this wouldn't hurt.

This error message occurs when a user attempts to logon to an Oracle database. It means that the Oracle communications software (SQL*Net) did not recognize the database name specified. (This is the name entered in the third field of the ORACLE logon box.)
For a database name to be recognized, it must be entered in a file called tnsnames.ora. Some users have their own copies of this file stored on their local hard disks.

Now for the second error message

Login and password provided in the company information are incorrect: Login to FRx Designer as the Administrator.
To do this, click on the Admin menu and then click Admin Login. If this option is unavailable, see How To: Setting or Changing the FRx Admin Password for information on setting the Admin password. On the Company menu, click Information. The Company Information dialog box appears. Locate the problematic company, and then click on the System Specific Information tab. Type the correct database login and password in the appropriate fields.

Again this is just some research I pulled from a few trustworthy websites. Try these things to reslove the issue and let me know if any new error messages or if you have tried these two solutions.

Cordially,
