Question : How to use /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve descriptions of errors in Event viewer

Hi,

I am trying to use the /auxsource switch to get more details about error mssages in the Event Viewer. I see these messages like:

The description for Event ID ( 2803 ) in Source ( MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description

I have been following this article http://support.microsoft.com/kb/312216 and have launched the Event Viewer with mmc /a eventvwr.msc /auxsource=server, but don't see anything different. Messages for errors are the same. The server is a domain controller. What I am doing wrong? How can see more information about these errors?

Thanks.

The Auxsource switch helps only if the event log is viewed on another computer than it was generated, and the software is not installed on that other computer.
MSSQL$MICROSOFT##SSEE is the SharePoint Service database (MSSQL Server). All references I have found are about having autoclose on that database defined, which leads to considerable delays when trying to access the DB. This link should help you to be able to switch it off:
