Question : How do copy only active window to clipboard in Windows XP?

I am using Gateway Laptop with Intel Centrino Duo Processor.  Operating System is Windows XP Professional.

I need to copy active window to clipboard and paste it in an e-mail but all the windows on the screen get copied and pasted.

How do I just copy and paste the active window?

Answer : How do copy only active window to clipboard in Windows XP?

PrtScn:  Copies the entire screen to the clipboard
Alt + PrtScn:  Copies only the active window to the clipboard.

Naseeam, your problem is that your error message box is *not* a top level window. It's just a messagebox. When you hit alt+prtscn your entire application gets copied to the clipboard, with the error message included inside.

If you want more powerful screen capture support, you have to use a more sophisticated screen capture utility. hese utilities often have the ability to let you select the window you want to capture using your mouse (you can see a highlighted border around the region that is going to be copied).

Snag It is a standard program, but it is not free. It does come with a trial though:

Some free ones:

Also.... you can always just paste the screen into MS Paint, and then crop the area you actually want. Copy paste *that* into your outlook.
